Inspired by Fashion Fairy Dust: DressLily Lace Extender & Networking

Last week, I attended a meeting with a group of amazing women and two fabulous men. We were discussing the topic of networking in business and the fact that many people tend to shy away from the term. I suppose the whole concept of networking and network marketing can be rather intimidating especially if you are bashful and laid back. Not wanting to be pushy, I find networking my small business a rather daunting task. Until I realized what it actually means to network.

As we discussed the meaning of the word at its root, we concluded that we all network. Every day. Without hesitation. Without concern of being pushy. We share our likes, our passions, our favorite movies, bands, and television shows. We spread the word about fantastic eateries in our areas. We give recommendations on doctors, salons, and playgrounds. And in almost every blog post that I write, I give you all some sort of recommendation. Whether it be the store where I bought my shoes, the online retailer who gifted me the item I am showcasing, or another blogger who has inspired me to the point that I must share it with all of you or else I will burst!

Networking in this way comes very easy to me. You all know it is my mission to spread kindness and share love. And what better way than to give space on my blog to other magnificent bloggers who inspire me. Last Sunday, I wrote a post that was inspired by Tamar of Random-osity. Today’s post is inspired by Debbie of Fashion Fairy Dust. And now I am inspired to make an Inspired By… series a regular occurrence on my blog. It probably won’t be limited to bloggers either because I am inspired by so many people.

Remember my post Be Your Own Art with Zaful? That was inspired by a comment sent to me by an old friend. And my post Inspired by Cindy Sherman with Rosegal? That post was inspired by the early work of a famous photographer. Basically, no one is safe from being surprised by an unexpected blog post about how they have inspired me!

*Shoes: Target. Similar here.

Debbie, this one is for you! Thank you for keeping me inspired!

And how has she inspired me? Well, the topics that Debbie addresses on her blog, Fashion Fairy Dust, can move you to tears, can you push into a fit of laughter, can trigger you to shake your fist in anger, and can force you to take action to make a difference in the world. She is one of the most inspiring bloggers I know when it comes to her written content. But she also inspires me on a sartorial level. And that’s what this post is about.

*Jeans: Old Navy. Similar here and here.

A year ago, I saw Debbie’s post Cream Button Up Tunic & Floral Sandals: Wedgie Wednesday. Yes, the content will leave you in stitches for sure, if you have any sense of humor at all. But it is her affinity for lace extenders layered under her dresses and tops that have sent me on a year long search to find some of these dainty under-layerings for myself. And finally, I have acquired one from DressLily.

My lace extender is called a Lace Extender Sheer Mini Skirt and is better suited under a top or mid-length tunic. It is not quite long enough to layer under a dress.  But I do love the little detail that it adds at the bottom of my embellished shirt.

I love it so much that I also ordered it in white! Now I just need to get my hands on some of the amazingly flirty ruffled and layered dress extenders that Debbie showcases on her blog. I swoon every time I see her style one. Check out some my favorites below from Fashion Fairy Dust:

I would love to know, who has inspired you lately and how? And do you feel compelled to share it with others when you are so fabulously moved by some one else?  That is networking at its easiest!

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee

Shelbee, you look fabulous in this layered look. I, too, have found inspiration from a variety of sources. In nearly every other post I mentioning the odd or random source of my inspiration for that post. I’ve also been a fan of Debbie’s blog and her inventive styling ideas. Thank you for sharing your own inspirations and for adding your post to my Fine-Whatever link up.

Love, love, love how you styled this my friend! And honestly, I am humbled by your words. I just responded to a comment on the blog about how it means the world to me that people find inspiration in my words as much as my style. I’m sure you don’t know this (how would you…lol), but oftentimes when I’m stuck on a topic your blog is one of the first places I head to for inspiration. You too, always have the best written content. My favorite blogs have a little more meat to them than just the fashion and yours is definitely at the top of the list! xo

Debbie, now I am completely humbled by this comment! Expressing myself through the written word as well as through my personal style has always, always been so important to me. Unfortunately, it took me until my 40’s to be able to share what I have to say publicly. And I am so glad that I began this blogging journey. People like you and comments like these are what validate what I do and inspire and motivate me to keep at it. As you know, it is hard work putting your guts out there, so when you start to see results and impact, then you know you have found your calling. So thank you so very much for the validation, for the inspiration, for the motivation, and for your amazingly supportive blogger friendship.

I’m very much an introvert when it comes to interaction with anyone outside my immediate family. So it’s been a steeping learning curve how to network. As a blogger, networking with other bloggers in your niche is key to success. In my opinion, it’s why my other blogs didn’t really get off the ground because I didn’t put myself out there and network. With my current blog, I have been commenting on other blogs, recommending bloggers, and interacting with other bloggers on twitter. Like you, networking became easier when I stopped trying to sell or promote myself but reach out selflessly and with no other agenda other to connect with other folks. By networking in that way, I have made some wonderful new friends (you included hon) and networking has become one of favorite new things to do.

As for your outfit, I’m really in love with the tunic and the boots. They give me a little bit of bohemian type of feeling, without being too difficult to put together. Thank you for sharing another awesome post, Shelbee!

Gigi, you are awesome! I am so glad that you found the easy way to network and that it has indeed helped you to branch out! I came to the same realization many years ago that acting selflessly in everything I do just sits better within my soul. And I have gained great rewards because of it. But if I hadn’t, that would be okay, too. Because I am a people pleaser and I want everyone to feel great about themselves because we all deserve that. If I accomplish that, then I have succeeded. And that is what makes me get out of bed in the morning. A drive to make a difference. Thank you so much for sharing part of yourself here. And I also count you in my group of blogger friends!
