How to Style a Mini Dress with Rosegal & Link Up On the Edge #55

Do you remember my post from May, Mini Dress or Dress for Mini People? If not, you should read it. I use the word vagina. Four times to be exact. In reference to a dress that does not cover mine. And here I have another one for you!

*This is a sponsored post. I received this dress in exchange for a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Except this time, I knew this dress would not fit me like a dress. I knew it would not be quite long enough. But I really liked the floral print and the color palette and the high-low hem and the lacy detail on the back. So I ordered it anyway with the idea that I would style it as a tunic. Which is really the only way to go when one receives a dress that is too short to be worn appropriately as it was intended.

So how do you style a mini dress that is just much too mini? Easy peasy. You need a bottom! Whether it be leggings, jeans, shorts, or a skirt, you just need a bottom piece that coordinates nicely and has the right proportions. So this dress turned out to be a bit more difficult than I anticipated to style as a tunic. I don’t wear leggings in the summer so that was not even an option. Over shorts, it was frumpy. Over jeans, it was just plain awkward. I tried a maxi skirt and that was weird. Then I dug out this denim skirt that I have had for a few years and I don’t think it has ever been worn. But it seemed to be exactly right. The body skimming pencil fit balanced the flowiness of the top and the dark denim was perfectly suited to the dark floral print.

I added an old pair of laser cut leather sandals which were a necessity for pedicure day. A long tassel necklace, a straw cloche hat, and my go-to Jord watch completed the look for a casual summer day.
