I have to start by apologizing for my tardiness in posting the next artwork for Style Imitating Art. We were vacationing at a cabin in the woods of Pennsylvania and I had no internet or cell phone service, which was really, really nice, to be honest. By the time we got home and unpacked all the things last night, I was way too pooped for anything but my bed!

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of Meadow Tree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as presenter, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the presenter by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the presenter will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join either! In fact, you don’t even have to join but you can still use the art to inspire an outfit just for the sake of trying something different. If you want to share your inspired outfit, we invite you do so on Instagram or any other social media platform that you prefer. “Race for the Moon” by Susan Musgrove

“Race for the Moon” is a quilt by Australian textile artist Susan Musgrove. This quilt was completed over a period of about 5 years and is made from cotton, ramie, silk, and organza. The artist used techniques including hand painting, silk screen and lino printing, stenciling, machine embroidery, hand beading, appliqué, and quilting. It was the centerpiece for the artist’s first solo exhibition in late 2006 and was selected for exhibition at the Japan Quilt Grand Prix in 2008. I cannot find any information or website for the artist herself, but her daughter Betty Musgrove is also a very skilled textile artist who speaks of her mother’s talents with much affection and pride in this 2021 interview.
