A Little Post About Gratitude & Link Up On the Edge #50

Today started out to be quite dreadful. It began with a feverish and vomiting child, miserable PMS getting the best of me in every possible way, a broken toilet, and gray rainy weather. I succumbed to the misery for a brief moment (well maybe for a good 6-8 hours), but as I am writing this I have decided to change my perspective. The child is starting to feel better, nothing serious but a mild stomach bug. The toilet has been fixed by my incredible husband. The PMS and the rain are still persisting, but these things shall pass.

So enough of all that nonsense, instead I want to talk about gratitude. I am so very grateful for many things. I am grateful for this space I have to be creative and to share my stories. I am grateful for all of you lovely readers who visit me here and interact and join my discussions. I am grateful for those of you who consistently share thoughtful comments on my blog posts. And I am especially grateful for those of you who share your sensitive experiences with me. I know that putting yourself out there can be intimidating and even plain old scary, and I thank you for feeling comfortable enough with me to share your stories despite your possible fears.

I am grateful for the support I receive from family and friends and even from acquaintances. I am grateful for all of you who stop by every week (sometimes multiple times a week) and add your posts to my link ups. I am grateful for the brands who have reached out to me for collaborations and I am grateful for my blogger friends who also reach out to work on projects together. Without all of this and all of you, I would probably have discontinued this blog a long time ago.

So thank you for keeping me going. Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for validating me. Thank you for appreciating what I do and what I say. And thank you for reading, for listening, and responding. I am ever so grateful.  My gratitude is overflowing and that makes me ever so happy.  Thank you.  Thank you.  Thank you.

What a cool post! So sorry to hear the start to your day was this dreadful – but you’re right, perspective can change our mood drastically. You look so gorgeous in this pink dress and I love how you put it on over a t-shirt!

Thanks so much, Laurie! And I, too, hope the virus doesn’t spread. The little guy crawled into bed with us last night and was all nuzzled up against me for the night…so it may take a small miracle for me to escape it!

This is a great reminder that there are always going to be little bumps in the road and when things aren’t going our way we should try to remember all the positive things in our lives. Love your tiered maxi dress! The color is so pretty on you!

There really is so much to be thankful for and it is easy to miss it in the day to day challenges of life. Good reminder to look at the good things… and I have found that it is a better way to live every day, no matter what. I am so thankful for my family and the blessings God gives. 🙂

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

It really is a better way to live, Joy! I simply cannot live in a place where I am focused on the negative. It is much too depressing and there are too many wonderful blessings in this life to ignore them and allow the negative to overshadow them. I choose joy and gratitude every day and I am much happier and more peaceful for it! Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your beautiful perspective. I wish you a very blessed weekend.

Thank you so much, Rachael! I would totally wear this dress this weekend, except it has a big hole in the front and I am too lazy to mend it! I will get it to eventually. And I am so glad that you will keep my little tip in your self-help arsenal for the next time you may need it! Have a beautiful weekend.

Today I am grateful for life and for the never ending ability to dream.
    Hugs.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Lorean, thank you for this lovely comment! I didn’t want to make you cry! But tapping into our emotions is ever so important, too, isn’t it? I adore your attitude of gratitude and your ability to always dream. Have a fabulous weekend, my friend!

I’ve had to work hard on my gratitude this week – but it really does help turn things around! This is such a lovely dress, and a perfect color for you. I hope you have a great weekend!

  • Paula

Ohh… recently I’ve had many days just like yours. When I’m on the verge of freaking out I make myself take a step back and think to myself that it’s not worth going down that path. Hopefully you have something fun planned for this holiday weekend! Thanks for hosting and for sharing with my party.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

That is a great method of pulling yourself out of a bad day freak out, Paula! We do have lots of fun plans all weekend, so I am looking forward to that. Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your experience! Have a fabulous weekend.

What a beautifully written, personal post, my darling. We’ve all been there, those days that everything seems to be going wrong. Those are the days, we think about wrapping ourselves in bubble wrap and sitting on the sofa so we don’t break a leg, etc.

But an attitude of gratitude has the power to change everything. It looks like even the sun shone for you. Xo Jonet

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thank you so much, Jonet! On days like those, I often find myself wanting to answer the question “How are you today?” with a grumble of “I’ve been better.” But then I realize that I have also been much, much worse…and that is enough to turn my attitude around and be thankful that I am actually quite okay. And sometimes being quite okay is actually a wonderful thing!

Great post my friend. Sometimes it’s hard and we have to remind ourselves to be grateful for the many things that we do have. I’ve been in a dark place the last few days and have been kicking my own ass to knock it off and be thankful for what I do have. That’s usually all it takes…a good ass kicking from myself…lol!

    PS…Red is definitely your friend!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Debbie! I am so sorry to hear that you have been in a dark place…it is sometimes difficult to get ourselves out of those places. And this often dark and unkind world filled with people who love negativity makes that much more difficult. Those are the times we have to kick our own asses to get out of it…because no one else will! So keep kicking your own ass right back into a sunny place! You will get there (if you haven’t already). And remember…we are all so much prettier when we smile! (That’s a little taste of my mom’s wisdom right there. Haha.)

And also…I just bought the prettiest bright red sheath dress. I can’t wait to share it on the blog!

I am glad things are looking up for you and your family! Sometimes when it rains it pours when it comes to problems. I hope your weekend looks good for you!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thank you, Lanae! Actually, things were not all that bad, just a bunch of little nuisances piling up. Which is why gratitude was necessary! The weekend has been great so far. I hope you are having a fabulous one as well!

Denim jackets and maxi dresses are such a wonderful combo. The color and tiered style of this maxi makes a wonderful statement! I really like it layered over the tee, as well.

  • Andrea@WellnessNotes

Gratitude is so important and so powerful. I’ve been quite overwhelmed in the past few months, and it’s easy to have a pity party…. I always try to remember that there is always something to be thankful for. On some days we just have to look a bit harder.

Thanks for a great post! I always appreciate your honesty and willingness to share! I hope to be able to visit a bit more again now that I finished the spring quarter…

    Great maxi dress!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Andrea, thank you so much for this thoughtful comment! And it is those days when we have to look a bit harder for the good things that it is most important to find them! I hope things are calming down a bit for you so you have the opportunity to rest and regroup.
