A Beautiful Paradox: Graffiti & Lace with Rosegal

There is just something about paradox that draws me in. It creates an aesthetic appeal in the sartorial realm. It forms the basis of irony in the lingual world. Two of my favorite areas combined in my blog space…fashion and words.

*This is a sponsored post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

*Lace extender: Mesh Floral Mini Plus Size Lace Extender Skirt c/o Rosegal.

I have long been fascinated by the combination of feminine lace details combined with the edgier feel of distressed denim. And there is something about white lace that radiates purity and innocence. But juxtapose it with the toughness implied by ripped jeans and place it against a shabby urban background detailed with bad graffiti and neglected paint and I think you have a beautiful ambiguity of opposing details.

Jeans: Torrid Girlfriend Jeans.

The ultimate contrast of opposites has always been the combination of black and white. It is the timeless parallel of all saturated color placed against no color at all. Then add in a dash of the brightest red and it is the most striking color combination to the human eye. The appeal, however, is in the details. Polka dots, lace, torn denim, floral embroidery. It is all of my favorite things combined into one single photoshoot.

Shirt: c/o Style We. Other options available here and here.

And the greatest paradox of all happened this weekend. This girl, right here, the one who loves to use words for every purpose. The girl who can talk endlessly on any multitude of subjects. For hours and hours and hours on end. Until my voice goes hoarse. This girl has lost her voice…completely. There is nothing but a mere, very strained whisper that will come forth with the greatest of effort. And it is driving me quite crazy.

Jacket: Old Navy. Alternative option here.

Although my actual voice has been silenced for the time being, I still have many things to say. So I guess this week I will sit in my muteness and ponder my next topic for discussion. And I will let the words trickle through my fingers until I can speak again.

Boots: Charlotte Russe Rose Embroidered Ankle Booties.

What are some of your favorite paradoxes?  Words, clothing, actions…it could be a paradox of any sort. I would love to hear.

Quiet on the edge,

  2. That is such a coincedance, I also lost my voice….and it hurts like hell. Haha, I hope we both will have ours back real soon because it’s tiring!

    • Oh my gosh, Nancy! Isn’t it exhausting…just trying to get sound to come out to communicate a little bit with my family! Mine does not hurt so much now, but I was up all night coughing like hell! I hope you feel better soon, my friend!

  3. Such a fabulous mix here – and the lace extender is really a special piece. Love, love those booties. Stay amazing, and thanks for linking up, xo

    • Thanks so much, Patti! I think is one of m favorite outfits that I have put together. But the boots are so uncomfortable! Have a fabulous week, my friend.

  4. Definitely the clothing dichotomy has been my fave lately. Although it’s still kinda hard because we get into ruts, don’t you think?
But what I’ve been trying to do is put together an outfit, and then think of how to change it, to make it different!!
    Love this look, Shelbee!!

    • Jodie, thanks so much for stopping by! I do love the contradictions between certain style genres and when you put them together you get magical results. I definitely get in ruts just like anyone else, but I also love the challenge of having one piece that I am obligated to style and then figuring out how to make it work! I actually had a really hard time with this white lace extender. I have it in black and it was easy peasy to style. But the white one, for some reason, was really tripping me up. This was about the tenth try with this piece. But once I got it, I loved the result. As is usually the case, isn’t it? The more the difficult the challenge, the greater the outcome! And then I styled it again with a different top which will be appearing soon on the blog. Have a fabulous week, my friend!

  5. I love wearing distressed denim with more ladylike pieces too! That lace detail is so pretty!

  6. Hope your voice comes back.

    • Thanks so much, Claire! Black, White, and Red is one of my favorite color combinations ever. And add in polka dots and flowers and I am a happy girl! Have a fabulous week, my friend.

  8. I am a walking, talking, breathing paradox. I am deeply shallow!

BTW, many people only wish I would lose my voice!!!!! XOXOXOXOXOXO!!!!

  9. Too chic, the boots are amazing. I really don’t know what I am waiting for to hit buy.

    • Ashley, thank you so very much! I struggled a little with styling this white lace extender, but I am so, so happy with the end result! I think this is one of my favorite outfits ever. Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous week!

  11. I just love the polka dots on that top. It makes it look so light and feminine! You probably hate losing your voice as much as I do, and it has happened many times in the past. The worst part is it coming slowly back and sounding deep, deep, like a man or a frog!

    • Thanks so much, Julie! This voice loss thing is definitely less than a desirable situation! It makes parenting little ones very difficult, too! I am now on day 4 of no sound…but I am getting periodic bouts of deep froggy voice…I guess that’s a sign it is coming back. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a fabulous week!

  12. Lace and ripped denim…one of my all time favorites! I lost my voice Friday too (yes, I’m still sick after 2 weeks…grrr). That’s a problem when you have a room full of kids to teach…lol! Fortunately I have three of the best aids (and friends) ever in my room so they were my voice for the day. xo

    • Ah, Debbie, I knew you would like this outfit of mine! After all, you were my inspiration for getting these adorable lace extenders. I am on day 4 of no voice and it is seriously the most annoying thing! I don’t know how you can handle a classroom of kids when I can’t even handle my two boys with no voice. They are walking all over me because no sound comes out when I try to discipline! There is a lot of clapping hands and snapping fingers from me. Ha. Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you feel better soon!

  13. I love the lace underneath! I have a few shirts like that and they are my favorite!

    • Thanks so much, Stefanie! I love that the extender is a separate piece so I can add it to any shirt I want! Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous day.

  14. You look beautiful darling. I also fold my blue denim pants sometimes. That floral design looks like a character.

  15. Hey, Shelbee I hope you feel better and you get your voice back! As for your outfit, I really love those ankle boots. They are so cute and I love the roses on them. I’m also a huge fan of that top. The overall outfit is just a perfect mix of bad ass and feminine chic.

    • Gigi, thanks so much for your kind words! I am on day 4 of no voice and it is driving me crazy at this point! And I think this may be one of my favorite outfits ever. Although I struggled a bit with styling this white lace extender. Thanks for stopping by and have a fabulous week!

  16. So cute and fierce! I love your attitude! Have a great day, Shelee!

  18. Send those boots to me when you’re tired of them! :D. Looking adorable and everything works so well together!

Thanks so much for sharing with Fun Fashion Friday and have a fun Halloween weekend!

    Dawn Lucy

    • Thanks so much, Dawn Lucy! Are these boots just so fun!? But I do have to admit, they are not all that comfortable! But that won’t stop me from wearing them! Have a great weekend.

  19. I love the red jacket and floral embroidered boots! Fabulous outfit! Hope your voice is fully recovered. Thanks for linking up!

    Emma xxx

    • Thanks so much, Emma! It has been a week and a half and my voice is still hoarse! This bout of bronchitis/laryngitis is the worst I have ever had, I think! But I am feeling much better, thank you. Just still can’t talk too much!

  20. Love the outfit and all these great pictures! Hope you’re back to your speaking self soon.

  21. And just realized you probably are back to speaking as my wordpress reader never updated on this iPad I’m using, and this is already an old post. Sorry. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve got an old, slow iPad.

    • Ha! That’s quite all right, Erika! I appreciate the well wishes nonetheless! Although I may be on the verge of losing my voice yet again, so I will still accept any positive energy sent my way to prevent that. Thanks for stopping by!
