Gingham is My Jam

Gingham is my jam. Seriously. I am currently having a love affair with all things gingham. It makes me smile. It makes me feel like a kid. It makes me feel like a bright, lazy summer’s day. Like an easy spring afternoon. Like a leisurely stroll through a flower garden. Like a nostalgic time that has long gone. Like a fresh, airy breeze. Like a genuine smile. Like a sincere compliment. Like uncomplicated innocence. Like sunshine. Like lemonade. Like spontaneity. Like purity. Like perfect ennui.

There’s a story behind this gingham dress in particular…I spotted it in Old Navy when it first came in and it was love at first sight. But when I tried it on, it looked awful. It was just absolutely the wrong length and made me look like a giant gingham frump! And it was full price. I hate to pay full price. So I put it back. I went back 3 different times and tried this dress on every time. Each time it was cheaper than the time before. Still no good. As much as I loved the dress on the mannequin and on the hanger, it just was not flattering me and I didn’t want to add yet another piece to my wardrobe that didn’t feel fantastic. So back to the rack it went. Again. However, I wasn’t ready to give up on this adorable gingham dream. And the fifth time was the charm! I was in Old Navy and I spotted the dress on the clearance rack. It was under $10. I figured I could give it one more try…but with a twist. What if I wore it as a jacket instead? I put it on over my clothes and left it hang open…and it was like a magical transformation! Like the kind of magic that only gingham holds! It was downright adorable and now it was mine!

I decided to style it over a gauzy white sundress. And then I had this fabulous long strip of beautiful gingham that was the belt. I simply could not let this go to waste. So around my neck it went, tying a bow on the perfect gingham outfit! What does gingham do to you? Or is it another print that has magical powers for you? Do tell!

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee
