Five Winter Wedding Outfit Ideas on My Wedding Anniversary

I am teaming up again with 4 fabulous ladies to show you some amazing outfit inspiration for a Winter Wedding. And the timing of this post is perfect as today is my Wedding Anniversary! Seven years of wedded bliss…and per the normal Army standard, the husband is 1,500 miles away on our special day. Ha. We are 2 for 7 this year…meaning we have been able to spend our “actual” anniversary together only 2 times in 7 years of marriage. But it’s all good…because we simply cherish every day that we do get to spend together regardless of the date. Happy Anniversary to my best friend!

If you recall, I teamed up with the following gorgeous gals back in November to bring you some wedding outfit ideas for a Fall Wedding in my post What to Wear to a Fall Wedding.

The amazing Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood from Michigan, USA. (Also, the brilliant brain behind this collaboration!)

Ada’s outfit: “I think fur, sparkle and a strong pop of color can work together beautifully for a Winter Wedding Outfit, as my look today proves. Add a smoky eye, a bright pink lip and some fierce black pumps and you are set.”

The captivating Kristin of Countdown to Friday from Germany.

Kristin’s outfit: “Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t wear floral. I’m loving the print, bell sleeves, and low price of this fun dress!”

The beautiful Nina of A World of Dresses from Spain.

Nina’s outfit: “When I think winter wedding, I think of something I can stay warm in first and foremost! I also am a fan of all things green.”

The lovely Linda of A Labour of Life from Ontario, Canada.

Linda’s outfit: “Winter weddings in the north call for multi layers and for me I wanted a funky look. I found this tulle skirt at Shein a few years ago and I adore it. I thought I would pair it with a warm fuzzy sweater in a baby blue to soften the look, and threw my moto over top. I found the fur jacket at Target and it’s perfect for occasions like this.”

And little ole me, Shelbee!

My outfit: “My winter wedding look features a black floral printed tulle midi skirt with a burgundy cardigan and burgundy strappy heels. To finish off the look, I tied a black velvet scarf around the waistband to create a cummerbund style belt. I added a short black jacket with black jeweled details at the neckline and a gold bag for some extra sass.”

Do take a minute to visit their blogs and read all about the details of their beautiful outfits!

In honor of my Anniversary, I thought I would share some background information about my marriage.

We met in a bar in Pennsylvania. The husband was wearing his Army uniform and after a few minutes of conversation I said to him, “I like your uniform, but it would look much better on my floor.” That kind of sealed the deal.

I am 7 years his senior. The only time that is ever evident is when pop culture references enter the conversation!

Right before our first date, I had an anxiety attack and almost canceled. But my best friend, Jane, urged me to go anyway. I revealed all of my darkest Bipolar secrets and gave him an immediate out. He responded with “I am intrigued.” And I replied, “Don’t ever say that I didn’t warn you.” (Thank you, Jane, for not letting me cancel.)

We moved in together about 4 months after we met.

We were married a year after that. We decided to get married because we were at an Army event where everything was going sour. We were scheduled to meet a bunch of Army cohorts out at bar and I said, “Hey, you wanna turn this party around? Let’s show up and tell them we are getting married.” And that’s just what we did.

We were married in my mother-in-law’s back yard by a Justice of the Peace and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. Only immediate family was in attendance (and Jane). I wore combat boots (because I always wanted to get marry in combat boots).

That May, we had a giant party at a lake to celebrate our union with our friends. The only bathroom facility was a port-o-potty.

In August, we flew to California for our honeymoon, where we visited the BFF Adam and then spent some time at Yosemite National Park.

I never wanted children until June of that same year (I was 36 years old). By September I was pregnant and our first child joined our little family in May. We bought a house right before baby arrived and by December, the husband was living in upstate New York and scheduled for a deployment. I remained in Pennsylvania with the new baby because of the upcoming deployment.

By some miracle, the deployment was canceled and by that time we were expecting baby number 2. I refused to leave my home until the baby was born. When baby number 2 was 3 months old, we sold our house and finally moved to upstate New York and our family was whole again. After 4 years in upstate New York, I am starting to consider myself more a New Yorker than a Pennsylvanian! (Although just yesterday, after talking to Jane on the phone for over an hour, I felt homesick for the first time in 4 years!)

And it has just been a wild ride! But a ride that I would go on a million times over given the chance. I am so grateful for all that I have, for all that my husband gives and sacrifices for our family, for all the love that surrounds me every day. No matter how frustrated and irritated I can sometimes get with military living and with two little rambunctious boys, I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
