Feeling Like An Old Hippie and #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #16

There is a story behind this outfit and how it came to be be. On Saturday, I smashed my toe on the little trampoline that has made its home in the middle of my living room. It was a toe stubbing that made witnesses cringe. However, after about 60 seconds of eeking and owwwing, the toe was fine. Then on Sunday, I stubbed the same toe on some flattened moving boxes that were propped against the couch. This time the stubbing was not so bad. However, after about 10 minutes the pain began to worsen and the thought crept into my head, “Hmmm…this toe feels broken.” About an hour later, when my poor toe turned an unsavory shade of gray and purple, I was convinced that it was indeed broken. Who would have thought that a tiny little bone such as a toe bone could cause so much pain when broken!

When it came time to get dressed on Monday, I realized that I was not going to be able to wear shoes. Like actual shoes that would put pressure on my swollen toe. So it would have to be sandals of some sort with lots of foot bed support. But alas, it is still much too cold where I live to go outside with exposed toes (and my poor winterized, unpedicured toes would cause onlookers to cringe). So I had to find a way to rock the socks with sandals look in the way that only Shelbee on the Edge can!

The socks with foot bed sandals felt a little old hippie style to me so I figured I would work the outfit around the socks and shoes. I grabbed this giant oversized sack of dress from New Chic. I ordered it a bit too big (I could probably go down about 3 sizes), but I figured layering it over a long sleeve tee and leggings would work just fine. And then I added a denim jacket, a scarf, and a boho hat to complete the look. If I was going to wear socks with sandals, I figured I might as well wear the most obnoxious sandals to draw attention to this crazy little detail. So I went for my fave metallic Fauxenstocks (I stole that term from the fabulous Anne M. Bray)!

Once I had the whole thing on, I kind of loved it! Much, much different from my outfit posted yesterday when I went all Merida-inspired in a corset with The Fab 40’s, but much more me, I have admit! Very much within my comfort zone, in fact. But then I thought, “Too bad I have to wear the sandals because I have the cutest purple booties which would look so stinking adorable with this outfit!” But, I have a broken toe and the booties are a tad too snug to begin with. But look how cute they are!

*I was gifted these booties from DressLily for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

*For size reference, I am generally a US Size 10 in shoes. I ordered the US Size 11 in these booties to be on the safe side, yet they are still quite narrow and a bit too tight. I may be able to wear them with just stockings, but certainly never with socks. However, by the time my broken toe heals and the swelling goes down enough for me to even attempt to put these on, we will be fully in the swing of Spring weather and the boots will be put away until the Fall.

By the way, if you do ever break a toe, wearing a sturdy foot bed sandal definitely eases a lot of the pain. That and stabilizing the break with some medical tape and lots of ibuprofen!

And in more exciting news, I am heading to the airport in 3 hours to pick up my husband! Finally, the 78 days of separation have come to an end and my little family will be complete again. All will be right in my world!

And now it’s link up time…and I apologize for not sharing your favorites this week, but I need to get myself all dolled up for the big reunion! Hopefully, I will have pictures to share this week!  Have fun linking and keep #SpreadingTheKindness!

Keeping it on the edge,
