Artistic Interpretation & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #49

Artistic interpretation is one of the most subjective ideas in human existence. Human beings have been expressing themselves creatively through art since the beginning of time really. As we evolve, our methods of artistic expression and the way we interpret art evolve with us. People find ways to express their creativity through an endless variety of mediums. Many people express themselves through painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, music, or writing. Others find creative outlets in clothing or jewelry design.

You can find art everywhere around you, if you are looking for it. The florist, the crafter, the stylist. The architecture in your town. The displays in your local shop windows. All of these things require an artist with a creative flare and a keen eye for a beautiful aesthetic. And while beauty always lies in the eye of the beholder, if you look for it, it is quite literally everywhere around you.

For example, I express myself creatively through this blog…with my writing and my clothing. I find so much joy in being able to combine pieces into one outfit that others may not think of combining. On Thursday, I promised you all that I would be showing a combination of three plaids in one outfit. Although one of my so-called plaids is actually houndstooth. So in reality, I have combined two plaids and a houndstooth. But it’s all subject to my own interpretation anyway, so call it whatever you like!

Style is my form of art, creating outfit combinations that are interesting and fun but still look appropriate for every day living.  But as I stated earlier, art takes on so many different forms. Each form is left to the discretion of the creator. I create outfits. Others create all different sorts of beautiful things.  And all of these different beautiful, creative things are each considered art forms.

For example, if you were to walk into my favorite eyewear boutique, EyeCrave Optics, not only would you be presented with the most amazing designs in eyewear (a brilliant art form in its own right), but there is currently a display of the most vibrant and colorful paintings that are sure to lift your spirits at first glance. The creative genius behind these paintings, Taylor Weldon Soderquist, is local to my small town of Watertown, New York.  He exhibits a fondness for color and specializes in a variety of mediums such as acrylic, oil, and spray paints. He is heavily influenced by the works of artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jackson Pollock, Hans Hoffman, and Clyfford Still. Much of Taylor’s artwork is currently housed in a brand new art studio in town, SmitKit Studio. I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting SmitKit Studio, but after viewing this fantastic sampling of Taylor’s work, you can be sure that I will be heading to the studio the next chance I get.  (I see a future blog post coming featuring SmitKit Studio.)

Check out these pieces by Taylor Weldon Soderquist.

Don’t the colors and the designs just automatically elevate your mood? I think everyone needs a piece of art like this hanging somewhere in their home where it is the first thing you see in the morning. Start your day out bright and cheerful with a bit of intrigue and mystery!  Here is one unique and fun way that you could acquire an original painting by Taylor…

In an effort to get more people excited about art, Taylor offers “Free Art” where he will place a piece of his original artwork somewhere around Watertown, New York. He will take a photo of it in its location and post it on his Facebook Page. The first person to go out and find it, keeps it! I just cannot get over what an unbelievably amazing and generous idea that is! So if you are local to the Watertown area and you love art, follow along and see if you can acquire your very own original painting by the brilliantly talented Taylor Soderquist.

Taylor also teams up with another local artist, Stow Dunham. Together they perform live art in conjunction with live music events and band performances.  At the end of the show, they raffle off the resulting artwork. Another super cool way to become the proud owner of this magnificent artwork. How cool is that?

To view more of Taylor’s work, you can follow him on Instagram (@kwst_art).  You can also check out what’s going on at SmitKit Studio on Instagram (@smitkit_studio).  And if you are local to the Watertown, New York area, you should definitely check it out in person!  It will take your breath away.

And while I am on the topic of creative genius, I was also recently introduced to the stunning jewelry design of Lynne Bates who specializes in handmade copper pieces. Her designs are available for purchase in her Etsy shop, Handmade and Hammered. On Shop Small Saturday, I treated myself to a pair of copper earrings adorned with red enamel and turquoise. They have immediately become my favorite earrings and I have worn them multiple times in the past week since I have acquired them. I will be adding more Handmade and Hammered jewelry to my personal collection soon…perhaps some custom made pieces are in order.

I hope you all enjoyed all the artistic influence and creative interpretation in this post. Tell me how do you incorporate art into your life…do you wear it, view it, buy it, create it, or just live it?

And now your favorite posts from last week.
