A Little Black Dress

I have an entire section of my closet that is dedicated to little black dresses…that I never wear! The LBD is such a classic look and I understand that every women is supposed to have least one LBD. So I am always adding more when I find one for a great price. But I never wear them. Until I received an email from Nina of A World of Dresses inviting me to join her Little Black Dress Party, a collaboration of women styling their LBD’s which is due to happen on June 22, 2016. So, of course, I had to style one of the many LBD’s in my closet!

I chose this black shirt dress which I recently picked up on clearance from Old Navy. It is super lightweight and a little bit sheer with a detachable black lining. I love the pleated bib and it has a button closure at the back of the neck.

Because it is summer, I wanted to wear some pastels to brighten up the look a bit. You know that I also love to break up the monotony of a solid color with scarves and long necklaces. They also add some shape to an otherwise shapeless dress. So I added this blush floral print scarf with tassels and giant pearl statement necklace, both from Cato Fashions.

I contemplated adding block heeled sandals, but then I realized that I was doing nothing all day…literally nothing…so I decided flat and comfortable was the way to go. So I pulled out my cute little ballet flats in blush which I recently picked up with rewards dollars from DSW.

How do you wear your LBD? Definitely check out the Little Black Dress Party going on tomorrow for more ideas and inspiration!

Keeping it on the edge,

  30. I was the same, Shelbee, and then somehow, along the way, I lost interest in my LBDs. I started wearing pinks and nudes and mauves. It’s been a while since this body of mine has come into close contact with a little black number πŸ™‚

    • Sheela, I think it’s because your personality shines too bright for an all black look. Nonetheless, I am sure you would be equally stunning in an LBD because you would use it as a blank canvas to showcase some amazing colorful accessories, I’m sure, in a way that is oh-so-Sheela! Thank yuou for stopping by!

      • I love your rationale!! So much more exciting than the truth πŸ˜› and speaking of full disclosure, I wore nothing but black for the first 30 odd years of my life actually GRIN

        • Sheela, I went through a very long “wear only black with the occasional dark green or deep purple thrown in” phase. I also very much enjoyed the Goth fashion of the 80’s and 90’s. It was right up my alley. Which then led into the 90’s grunge era…equally appealing to me. It hasn’t been until my late 30’s and early 40’s when I am truly embracing colors and patterns. But there is still a lot of black in my closet. It will always be my first love! Have a wonderful weekend!

  40. Fun black dress…such a good staple to have in your closet

  41. You have such a beautiful smile, Shelbee <3. I love your black tshirt dress; I know it's got to be comfy…b/c I have a very similar one! It feels like I'm wearing a pajama tshirt without necessarily looking like it! I love DSW rewards…probably b/c I shop their shoes way too much, lol! The blush flats you picked out are so pretty!

    • Jane, you are so sweet! The dress definitely felt like I was wearing a nightgown all day! And the shoes feel like slippers! I, too, shop DSW a bit too often! That place is like kryptonite! And when they have their huge clearance sales, when it’s an extra 20% of all clearance…holy, do I clean up in there!!!

  42. You are too funny that you have a whole section of LBD and never wear them. I am glad you are using this fun summer dress!

Thank you for being a part of TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you soon!

    • Oh Alice, you have no idea of how ridiculous my closet is! I buy these adorable things with these great ideas in mind, but then being a stay at home mom in a small town, I end up usually reaching for my boyfriend jeans and a tee! I am trying though! Thanks for stopping by!
